Wayne Lackner is the owner and manager of Urban Cedar Works. Wayne's love of cedar started at a young age. He learned to split cedar from a neighbor when he was in his early teens. Wayne began his first business selling handsplit cedar grapestakes to a cedar fencing company in Vancouver serveral years later.

"We absolutely love what we do. The smell of a recently split log always draws us in. The last few years have been spent trying to build with cedar artistically and sustainably. We reclaim and salvage our wood. We try to use as much recycled materials in our job as much as possible…And we also buy locally. Each piece and project we create is unique. All Cedarworks projects are custom-tailored to your needs. "

Urban Cedarworks obtains all of their cedar wood sustainably through reclaiming and salvaging. Only the best clear, edge-grain old-growth red cedar is selected. This means that the cedar is split across the grain following the natural contours of the cedar log. This makes the cedar pieces inherently stronger than milled wood - they estimate, as much as 5 times stronger. Cedar’s natural oils are nature’s protector, and give the cedar its claim to fame for being the most rot-resistant of all other woods. Cedar is a perfect choice for outdoor use in your garden.
